History of Sirindhorn College of Public Health, Trang

Sirindhorn College of Public Health Trang was established by the initiative of Mr. Chuan Leekpai in 1989, while he was serving as the Minister of Public Health. The Khuan Thani Sub-District head and village chief in Kantang District, Mr. Yuad Maninoon and Mr. Phuam Panchana, were contacted. The Laan Sai Hak field was chosen as the construction site with approximately 15.36 hectares of hand. Dr. Narong Chayakul, Trang Provincial Medical Officer at the time, inspected the plot and deemed that part of the land were marshes, while other parts were used in agriculture, with very little potential negative impact on the community, thus supported the use of the plot. Construction of the College started on 29 February 1993. The Land Use Committee approved the Ministry of Public Health to use 12.54 hectares of land with a budget of 165 million bahts as committed/obligated budget for the 1992-1995 fiscal years. In addition, support was given by the people of Khuan Thani Sub-District, who donated their land for building a road to the College. Further support was also given by public and private organizations. During fiscal year 1997, the Sports Authority of Thailand provided a budget of 5.2 million Bahts to construct the Khuan Thani Sports Stadium as an exercise space for the students and local residents in the sub-district and neighboring areas. Jom Tong Sila Ltd.Part. also supported a budget to build 1 kilometer of paved road to the College with the amount of 2,346,820 Bahts.
